Big rig fire slows traffic on I-10
A big rig fire slowed traffic on Interstate 10 in Indio Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the freeway’s westbound lanes just west of the Jefferson Interchange at 5:33 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol said the fire was in the rear axle of the truck’s trailer.
The CHP said firefighters had extinguished the blaze.
There was no word of any injuries, but traffic was backing up on the freeway for approximately a mile in the westbound lanes. Eastbound lanes were not impacted.
The CHP reopened all traffic lanes at 6:33 a.m., but traffic remained slow as crews worked to clean up and remove the damaged trailer from the roadside.
We have a crew there getting information.
