PSUSD unveils new logo, vision for new school year
The Palm Springs Unified School District is getting a different look for the upcoming school year, unveiling a new logo and vision for the school district, which is aimed at creating a cohesive goal.
Applause and enthusiasm at the PSUSD welcome back meeting, as staff members prepare for the upcoming school year. A new year also means some changes in the district with a new logo and a new vision.
“We have a whole new look that we hope conveys elements of our Coachella Valley but also really the optimism, the brightness,” Dr. Sandra Lyon, Superintendent of PSUSD, said.
Replacing the old image of mountains and palm trees is a simpler sun-like logo with six prongs, representing the six communities the district serves. The district says it solves the issue of the old logo’s convoluted appearance in different departments.
“It isn’t just about the skill or the ability of someone in one office or one school to use that logo this is really going to make it consistent across the district,” Dr. Lyon said.
The new vision for the district is now being presented as the phrase: “Lifelong Learning Starts Here”. It’s encouraging students to continue their education after they graduate. The district says there hadn’t been a well-known vision before this one. It’s a message tteachers are already buying in with their students.
“While college is the first step, but I love encouraging students,” Erin Graham, an English teacher at Palm Springs High School, said. “I’m an English teacher so I encourage my students to read constantly.”
To meet that goal, it means more engagement with parents, including those a little hesitant to get involved with their child’s learning.
“I hope that parents feel welcome not only in the classroom but in the school at large and the district at large,” Graham said.
The hope is a new look means a sunny future for the district.
The new school year for PSUSD begins this Wednesday for all schools. Parents are being reminded to arrive early in anticipation of the potential morning traffic.
