29 Palms Wildcats continue to roar over past two decades
Coach Martinez can’t even remember how many conference titles he’s won.
“I don’t remember,” Ernest Martinez said.
That’s because there has been a whole lot of them. He has nine conference championships on his resume as each year the Wildcat train stays on the track.
“Everybody is used to winning. Not in a cocky way but everyone has that mentality of known what they need to do and come and get the job done to win,” Isaiah Castaneda said.
Players come and go but the goals stay the same.
“Reaching for the playoffs and competing for a league championship so we are going to continue those same goals this season,” Martinez said.
This season they have to replace some very good players. There is all CIF level talent Hunter Tygart and KJ Magwood Morton and they they have to replace D’Shaun Barrett at quarterback. One of the best athletes to ever come through 29 Palms but programs at the top don’t rebuild, they reload.
“Caesar has been doing a great job. He actually filled in for us against Rancho Mirage and led us to a touchdown score,” Martinez said.
My opinion coming back is the best wide receiver that we are going to do see coming back this season. Isiah Castaneda was Mr. Reliable pushing 800 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“With a lot of confidence. That is what I bring to the table especially being my senior year I am going to lay it out on the line. Have to go out there with a savage mentality. Nobody can guard you,” Castaneda said.
Get ready to hear the name “Maputuli.”
Already offered by San Jose State and getting some serious interest from San Diego State.
“Pretty intimidating to other people but I feel like I have what it takes to take it all the way,” Adam Maputauli said.
There is stability at the top with 10 seniors in that senior class. They are not ready to be the group that loses to Yucca Valley for the first time in over a decade.
The 2018 high school football previews will air up until the season starts, which is Friday, August 17th for some of our area teams.
