Teen arrested for making Beaumont High School social media threat
A 14-year-old boy was arrested today for an alleged school shooting threat made toward Beaumont High School, which led to an increased law enforcement presence at the campus.
Police said they received a call about 8 p.m. Tuesday of suspicious circumstances in regards to a message received by a student over social media that warned of a planned shooting for “BHS” on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the Beaumont Police Department.
The message read, “As the only one I hope to leave alive, I warn you. When you hear the fire alarm go off at 10:00 tomorrow, run and hide. The school will be shot up. The BHS school exits will be blocked off from the outside. You have been warned. Tell anyone about this message and you will be eliminated. Oh and stay away from the trashcans in the hallways.”
The threat led the police department to increase security at the campus Wednesday, and an investigation led to the arrest of the student, who admitted to sending the message, according to police.
Police said “information from a citizen” was provided to the campus’ School Resource Officer, which led to the boy’s arrest.
A search of the teen’s home was conducted, but no weapons were found there, Beaumont police said. He was booked into Juvenile Hall in Riverside on suspicion of making criminal threats.
