Caught on camera: two men in golf cart stealing Amazon prime package
Two men in a golf cart were caught on camera stealing a package from a home in Palm Desert Country Club.
“They came up in a golf cart and they actually took it I couldn’t believe it,” said homeowner Jim Atkins.
The video shows two hooded men pulling up to Jim Atkins’ Palm Desert home — one running up to his front door and stealing his Amazon Prime package.
“It came at like seven o’clock in the morning and so when I went out…I saw the delivery notice…and I couldn’t find the package,” said Atkins.
Despite the area being a relatively safe, residents say that mail theft is a reoccurring problem.
“Occasionally there is just someone that will drive up and down and just pull things out of mailboxes,” said Greta Walsh.
Walsh, another resident in the country club, believes people are in search of holiday cash. “I don’t put anything out…because I want to make sure it gets to the destination,” she said.
Atkins has a security camera connected to his Amazon Alexa system — technology he encourages others to consider using given the frequency of porch piracy in the valley. Residents are also urging their neighbors to consider shipping valuable items to more secure locations.
“If it’s anything expensive I’m definitely gonna have it go to the Amazon locker system,” said Atkins.
Valley customers can easily search online and ship items securely to an Amazon locker location closest to their home.
