December Coachella Valley Spotlight Recipient: Amelia Earhart Elementary School

December’s Coachella Valley Spotlight grant recipient is Amelia Earhart Elementary School.

The school received their $25,000 check from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation on Tuesday. The money is expected to be used toward new technology. School officials say they will purchase four large televisions, two of which will have an interactive touch panel display. Educational toys like a Lego wall and 3-D pens are also expected to be purchased. Assistant principal Kirsten Wright says the hope is to transform the current library space to an innovative, student-centered makerspace.

“Our school is so limited on space and funding, so we don’t have the opportunity to provide these materials to every single classroom,” said Wright. “To have one particular dedicated place for classrooms to come in and utilize the materials is really beneficial.”

School officials shared that funds would also be used to buy new furniture and a storage cart.
