Student Athlete of the Week – Savannah Hampton
“If you can shoot quickly then the goalie has little time to react.”
Senior Savannah Hampton is a four-year varsity starter and captain of the La Quinta Water Polo Team.
“I think its just about getting the ball quickly to the goal,” said Hampton. “Also my teammates give great passes and that why I’m able to be successful with scoring and so are they.”
Savannah finds success in and out of the pool, she has a 4.71 GPA and will attend Arizona State University in the fall.
“To be able to play at the highest level possible while also having a good academic side of it,” said Hampton. “So it really came down to which one was the best level of play and academics that worked out.”
This future D1 athlete wants to pursue her degree in accounting and business management.
“I just really enjoy mathematics and i think both of those will be able to help me with whatever i choose to do in the future. If I can do business and also be able to do accounting; if I own my own business be able to do that for myself”
“She’s also just a leader, she’s always been a leader on the team,” said the La Quinta Water Polo Head Coach, Cal Lowell. “She always is the first to step forward to do just about anything, set an example the best she can.”
Savannah says in her free time she enjoys jamming to music with her friends.
“I really like country music,” said Hampton. “Tim McGraw Blake Shelton, great guys. I’m a Stagecoach goer, my family enjoys that it’s fun”
“I think she’ll have a happy life,” said her head coach Cal Lowell. “She’s just a really nice kid. More than anything she’s just a loving, kind, good natured person. She’ll have success in the things she does but I think the biggest success will be in her personal life, she’ll just be happy.”
