Man found guilty in killing of Palm Springs resident
Jason William Brokken has been found guilty of 2nd-degree murder and acquitted of 1st-degree murder in the 2012 killing case of Palm Springs resident Kenneth K. Moody.
Brokken was accused of killing Moody with a hatchet on Jan 21, 2012, then dumping his body in a garbage bag on Rudderow Lane in Sky Valley the next day.
“At the end of this case, I want you to look at Jason Brokken’s actions, because his words to police, when asked about this case, was that `I have no problem with Ken Moody. I have no beef with Ken Moody,”’ Deputy District Attorney Antonio Fimbres said in his opening statement in December. “But his actions tell you different. The evidence will tell you different.”

Brokken’s attorney, Cameron Quinn, countered during testimony that his client’s actions were in response to “inappropriate sexual advances” by Moody.

“The prosecutor referred to actions. What were (Brokken’s) actions? His actions were reactions to actions initiated by Mr. Moody,” Quinn told the jury.
