Banning Pass area sees freezing overnight temperatures, snow in mountains

The cold weather is bringing snow to our local mountains and freezing temperatures at lower elevations in the Banning Pass. The National Weather Service put in place a frost adivsory in the pass area in the late evening and overnight hours.

Temperatures here have been at freezing or near freezing here overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday. the Banning Hills actually saw snow last year this month.

The mountains have also already seen snow which is great news for businesses up there that rely on it to attract visitors, especially those coming from the desert where it doesn’t really get snow in the valley floor. Chains are required on SR 243 and SR 74 to get to Idyllwild.

Here are some things to keep in mind for that cold weather, avoid using cruise control for your car as the road can get slippery with freezing temperatures. Layer up in order to keep warm yourself and watch out for your plants outside as they may be sensitive to frost and the temperature, which could damage them.
