Washington St. partially closed on Indian Wells/Palm Desert border due to sewage spill

A sewage spill at the intersection of Washington Street and Fred Waring Drive in Indian Wells has led to partial road closures in the area, according to information released by the city of Indian Wells.

The intersection sits on the border of Indian Wells and Palm Desert.

The sewer main break, initially reported at around 10:15 a.m., has forced the number 1 and 2 lanes to close on southbound Washington south of Fred Waring Driving. Most of the traffic congestion is currently headed southbound on Washington Street.

Coachella Valley Water District crews will be working on repairs overnight. Work is expected to be complete by tomorrow.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
