Man arrested for DUI, illegal weapon possession at Desert Regional

A Palm Desert man remained behind bars Wednesday after being arrested over the weekend on suspicion of DUI, illegal weapon possession, and a parole violation following a crash in La Quinta.

On Sunday afternoon, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Madison Street and Avenue 54 for a report of a two-car collision. Witnesses on scene reported seeing a vehicle blow through a stop sign at approximately 60-80 miles per hour southbound on Madison Street when it sparked a collision with a second car.

While investigating the scene, deputies noticed that the driver of the vehicle that allegedly failed to yield at the stop sign, 33-year-old Palm Desert resident Justin Jackson, smelled strongly of alcohol, according to a La Quinta Sheriff’s Station news release.

Both Jackson and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to an area hospital. The driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Jackson was arrested at Desert Regional Medical Center at 6:44 p.m., then later booked into Indio Jail shortly before midnight on Sunday.

Investigating deputies reportedly found cocaine in Jackson’s vehicle. According to county jail records, he faces one felony count of DUI causing bodily injury, one felony count of possession of an illegal weapon (billy/blackjack/sandbag/sap), and one felony count of violation of parole.

He is being held on no bail.
