CHP: No deadly crashes during the New Year holiday ‘Maximum Enforcement Period’
The Indio Area California Highway Patrol officers credit aggressive traffic law enforcement for a year-to-year decrease in vehicle collisions and related injuries over the New Year holiday.
In a news release from Public Information Officer Jackie Quintero, officials announced that from 6:00 on New Year's Eve through January 1, "the Indio Area CHP personnel were out in force and aggressively enforcing traffic laws while looking for irresponsible and impaired drivers before they could injure or kill themselves or others."
The table below was provided by the CHP to show how this year compares with previous enforcement periods.
Indio Area CHP | Number of DUI Arrests | Number of Collisions | Number of Collisions with Injuries | Number of Collisions Resulting in Fatal Injuries |
2019 | 10 | 8 | 1 | 0 |
2018 | 14 | 16 | 6 | 1 |
2017 | 14 | 10 | 4 | 2 |
Officer Quintero noted,"Collisions decreased by half and collisions causing injury majorly decreased."
