Body found near Desert Hot Springs considered a homicide

A man's body was found in an unincorporated area near Desert Hot Springs Thursday morning. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department was investigating the death as a homicide.

The report came in at 10:54 a.m. in the area of Afortunado Drive and Santa Cruz Road, according to Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro, with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff's Department later confirmed the man had injuries but did not specify what they were.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The dead man's identity had not yet been determined.

Pecoraro was unable to provide more information on the incident.
