Get ready to ‘Go Orange’ in honor of Hunger Action Month

FIND Food Bank wants people to 'Go Orange' during the month of September to help bring awareness to hunger issues in the Coachella Valley.

Hunger Action Month is through the month of September. This is when cities and businesses help join in on the cause by lighting up monuments and places of business orange.

“Orange is the color that we use for September in honor of Hunger Action Month," explained Kelly Mui-Chesterton, FIND's Vice President of Development and Community Engagement. "It symbolizes hunger awareness and it also represents creativity, encouragement, and determination."

The fight against hunger is a non-stop battle for FIND Food Bank. The food bank said 38% of children in the Coachella Valley, 19% of seniors, and 43% of adults suffer from food insecurity.

During the month of September here is what you can do to join in on the cause.

  • Wear the color orange on Hunger Action Day on September 15.
  • Help spread awareness on hunger issues through social media using these hashtags: #LeaveNoLocalHungry, #HungerActionMonth, #HungerWontLiveHere
  • Offer a helping hand by volunteering at the food bank or one of its distribution sites.
  • Businesses can partner with the food bank by putting up banners and lighting up orange, or restaurants can have a special menu item in honor of Hunger Action Month.

Hunger Action Month is led by Feeding America and joined by FIND Food Bank and other regional food banks as well.
