Cathedral City approves contract to clean up giant mounds of dirt left after tropical storm
If you've driven through Cathedral City recently on Date Palm Road around the Interstate 10 entrance, you might have seen some of these giant mounds of dirt.
The piles all moved to the side of the road during the clean-up in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hilary. The area was severely impacted by flooding and mudslides.

On Wednesday, Cathedral City councilmembers unanimously approved a contract to Irvine-based Stice Company to move the mounds of dirt and clean away the soil remaining.
Cathedral City residents say the task at hand is daunting but necessary.
"10,000 truck loads it probably is more, I don't know how they're going to deal with that."
The contract will cost a total of $4,563,162.00, as it includes a base rate of just under $4 million, plus a 15% contingency in the amount of a little over $595,000 for any unforeseeable costs.
The money is set to come out of the general fund.
There were 10 bids in total, with Stice's bid coming in as the least expensive.
There was no word on when removal work could start but city officials said on Wednesday that it would take at least three months to be completed.
