Olive Crest raises more than $200K at ‘Power of One’ luncheon to help children and families in crisis
A local non-profit dedicated to preventing child abuse and restoring children and families in crisis raised more than $200,000 at their "Power of One" luncheon at Bighorn Golf Club on Thursday.
Olive Crest celebrated locals they call "champions of hope" who have made a difference by donating their time, knowledge, and money and have even fostered and adopted kids. Keynote speaker Peter Mutabazi - detailed his abusive childhood and explained how one man changed his life, and why now he's able to give back to kids in need.
"I'm not a dad because I have an extra bedroom. I'm a dad because he told me what I thought ought to be. Every man I knew was abusive. But he told me what a father ought to be," Mutabazi said.
Mutabazi has fostered more than 30 kids.
Olive Crest just opened its new Coachella Valley Children and Family Resource Center in Palm Desert.
