Fired up fans gear up for the Western Conference finals

The Western Conference match up between the Firebirds and the Admirals may be the same as last year’s, but Coachella Valley fans have shown there’s no shortage of original ideas to celebrate their favorite team.

The Firebirds faithful are having a bit of déjà vu, as the team kicked off the Western Conference Finals.

"I told my daughter, I have a feeling we're going to play the Admirals, and look where we are," said Firebirds fan, Ray Guzman.

It's the second season for the Firebirds, but fans are bringing fresh ideas to show off their team spirit.

"My dad did the Joey Daccord one, and then I did the Ryan Winterton one...because he's my favorite player," said Firebirds fan, Victoria Guzman.

From getting crafty to cheering on their favorite players, the Guzman family says they’ve been able to bond over their love for the Firebirds.

"It started out as me kind of being a fan. And she’s a bigger fan than me now. So I think it's pretty awesome," added Guzman."

Family, friends and community all coming together under one roof, united for their burning love of desert hockey.

Fans like, David Weiner expressing their appreciation as the Firebirds debuted their ‘Pathway to Pride.’

"The Firebirds have been really since the very beginning, really strong supporters of the LGBTQ community. This is a way for me to also kind of respect that commitment they have for our community," said Weiner as he wore his pride themed jersey.

From a sea of jerseys showing off the dedication, to firebirds friendship bracelets, there are plenty of ways for fans to show their love.

"Some dear friends of ours who sit right next to us made these for us. And so it's a fun way to sort of show support when we're here and when we're not here," said Firebird's fan, James Danoff-Burg.

Although fans all find their own way to show of their Firebirds spirit, their hope all remains the same.

"It's going to be a calder cup," said Danoff-Burg.

Along with the win, Game one of the Western Conference Final was a special one for fans as they learned that American Idol Star, Abi Carter will be performing at Friday's game.

That game is set to air on News Channel 3.
