Experts warn against firework impact on local veterans’ mental health

One of the year's biggest firework holidays is just around the corner.

But as Coachella Valley residents prepare to light up the night sky, some veterans in the valley may experience negative mental health effects from the loud sounds.

The National Center for PTSD says loud sounds created by fireworks can trigger feelings of anxiety or distress related to past combat experiences.

Additionally, the large crowds and vocal responses can also lead to flashbacks, nightmares and a disruption sleep patterns, leading some veterans to skip the holiday altogether.
