Traffic delays were reported Friday morning in Palm Desert at the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and Cook Street.
According to a release issued by the city of Palm Desert, the lights at the intersection are expected to remain dark or blinking throughout much of the day.
Until repairs are completed, the intersection will function as a four-way stop with temporary stop signs in place. Delays are possible and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
A timeline for their restoration to regular operation was not provided by the city.
There was no immediate word for the outage's cause, but traffic was backed up on Fred Waring Drive westbound and Cook Street southbound for a half-mile in each direction.
"Until repairs are completed, the intersection will function as a four-way stop with temporary stop signs in place," read the release issued by Lori Carney, Palm Desert Director of Administrative Services. "Delays are possible and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes."
A timeline for their restoration to regular operation was not provided by the city.
Crews are working to repair a traffic controller at the intersection which was damaged by a collision yesterday.
