Santa Ana Winds Bring Hot, Dry Conditions Last Week of October

The Coachella Valley and Palm Springs area will continue to see unseasonably warm and dry conditions through midweek as high pressure strengthens over the region. Though notably--October has not seen the record breaking heat it experienced in 2024.
Afternoon highs will remain in the low to mid-90s, running about 10-15 degrees above average for late October. Some of our neighbors to the west will run closer to 15-20 degrees warmer than normal the next few days--hence a Heat Advisory for our neighbors to the west.

Light offshore winds begin to develop today, becoming locally breezy through the mountain passes on Tuesday, where gusts could reach 35-45 mph. These Santa Ana winds are notorious for ushering in drier air, dropping afternoon humidity levels and elevating fire danger concerns.

Temperatures will stay hot through Wednesday (and Thursday for the desert) before a weak onshore flow returns Thursday, bringing a slight cooldown — though highs will still remain several degrees above normal.
Halloween Forecast looks warm and dry with afternoon temps in the low to mid 90s. Trick-er-treaters are looking at temps in the low 80s by early evening.
By the weekend, another brief offshore event may develop, allowing temperatures to edge back up again 1-3 degrees as we head into November. Overall, warm, dry, and breezy weather will remain the biggest topic for the valley this week.
Don't forget Daylight Saving Time ends Nov. 2nd. We "Fall Back" so we get an extra hour of sleep but loose an hour of daylight.
