Coachella Valley Now Added to Extensive Extreme Heat Warning

We're continuing to dial up the October heat this week!

This long-duration heat wave continues across Southern California with an Extreme Heat Warning now including the Coachella Valley in effect from 10am Wednesday through 8pm Friday.

Highs climb into the 104–108 degree range through Thursday—which is roughly 10–15 degrees above average—with Major HeatRisk made worse by warm overnight temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Temperatures begin easing this weekend, dropping back into the 90s, before a much more dramatic cooldown early next week. A deepening trough should pull highs closer to seasonal levels Sunday, followed by upper 80s to low 90s early next week. That's near a 20 degree swing between Thursday and Monday's daytime high temperatures!

Most of us continue to remain dry--but moisture from what was Hurricane Rachel may be drawn into Southern California, bringing a slight chance of light showers Monday, but the track—and rain potential—still remains pretty uncertain.

Gusty west winds could also develop through the passes, mountains and desert late Sunday or Monday. As is often the case with large and dramatic temperature swings.
