Rachel’s Remnants Bringing Weather Alert for Sunday Wind & Rain Chances

We’re trading October heat for a major weather change this weekend.

A First Alert Weather Alert is in place for Sunday as tropical rain and gusty winds arrive in the Coachella Valley.

Our Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 pm Friday, but temps will begin to ease up as high pressure weakens. That should bring our highs closer to seasonal by Saturday.

Clouds increase Saturday, with showers possible late Saturday night. The best chance for rain locally is Sunday morning into early afternoon as low pressure draws in tropical moisture from the remnants of Rachel. Some of these showers could potentiallu bring heavy downpours and embedded thunderstorms, which increases our risk of flash flooding. Valley rainfall totals potentially are pretty wide ranging currently--anywhere from 0.25-0.75" by Sunday night. Accumulation is going to rely heavily on Rachel’s track, so changes are certainly possible.

Additionally, winds strengthen Sunday, bringing gusty southwest/west winds and potentially difficult blowing dust, especially near the San Gorgonio Pass and along I-10.

A second low pressure system will keep a small shower chance around Monday and through Tuesday night, although rainfall is less likely and would generally be lighter after Sunday.

Temps turn noticeably cooler starting Sunday into early next week--a WEEK OF 80S!
