Tracking clear skies and rising temperatures
Our dew points today are noticeably lower than the same time yesterday. Dewpoints for the most part are between the mid forties and low fifties. Evaporative coolers should be working perfectly fine for most people, however a few may be struggling. Dew points are not expected to rise beyond 55° over the coming days.
The lower dew points today have allowed for mostly clear skies, but still enough for some clouds to form mainly over the mountains. The decrease in moisture makes sense when we look at a map of the water vapor in the atmosphere over southern California. There is an abundance of dry air in our area, as shown by the orange shading.
Tonight and Sunday night we can expect clear skies, providing a fantastic opportunity to witness the Perseid meteor shower this weekend. The best time to watch for shooting stars will be between the hours of midnight and 5AM. The Perseids are said to be the best meteor shower of the year, so be sure to take advantage of the nice viewing conditions.
As we head into next week, we can expect temperatures at or above the seasonal average. The average temperature for this time of year (in Palm Springs) is 109°, however on August 15 (Tuesday) the average temperature will fall to 108°F. Daily high temperatures will increase slightly with each day through the first half of this week, before stabilizing in the 110s for the second half of the week.
