Record heat today, cooling through the weekend

Today was a day of record-breaking heat here in the Coachella Valley! The previous high temperature record for today for Palm Springs was 105°F set back in 2003. The high temperature recorded today was 108°F, smashing the previous record!

As the ridge of high pressure continues moving to the east, it is leaving an open path for a trough of low pressure to move into the western U.S. this weekend. This trough will usher in cooler temperatures, but will also bring an increase to our winds.

It will be breezy to gusty at times throughout the weekend. By Saturday afternoon, we could see wind gusts exceeding 30mph in the most wind-prone areas. Winds will likely peak Sunday afternoon/evening.

Temperatures this weekend will fall considerably. Monday will be the coolest day of next week, with a daily high peaking in the low 80s. After Monday, temperatures will warm slightly, with highs in the mid 80s for the rest of next week.
