National Preparedness Month kicks off
September marks National Preparedness Month. On Saturday the Riverside County Office of Emergency Services visited a local Home Depot to educate the community.
People learned about the importance of being prepared for a natural disaster. Emergency responders handed out emergency kit items, discussed family communication plans, and introduced a new emergency alert program called “Alert Riv Co”.
“This is how we, as emergency management and first responders will communicate with the public in the event of a disaster when we need to tell the public what to do….but we don’t have cell numbers, emails, or a way to get a hold of people,” said Brooke Federico, EMD’s Senior Public Information Specialist.
