ORIGINAL STORY:
Police were investigating two separate, serious crashes in the Palm Springs area Thursday night.
The first happened just before 9:00 p.m. near the intersection of South Palm Canyon and Avenida Palmera.
Palm Springs Police officers say a woman was struck by a car and suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken to a local hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and was cooperative. Police did not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The intersection was reopened at approximately 2:30 a.m. Friday.
There was no word on the identity of the victim or driver.
In a separate incident, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash on the eastbound I-10 around 9:30 p.m. The crash involved at least two vehicles.
CHP said a vehicle stalled on the freeway after hitting the center divider wall. A big rig then hit the stalled vehicle in a second collision.
The Riverside County Coroners Officed identified Daisy Diaz Gomez, 18, of Thousand Palms as a motorist killed in the wreck.
The coroner was dispatched to the location around 10:00 p.m. and the crash backed up traffic.
