Local church moves forward after repairing damages from flood
It has been 10 months since Christ Lutheran Church in Desert Hot Springs was flooded causing major damage to the building. Now, the church has completely renovated and refurbished it’s interior like new.
New hardwood floors replaced the original carpet and new furniture replaced the ones that were ruined by the floodwaters.
The church suffered damage in November 2016 due to flood caused by a faulty water water pipeline. The congregation was able to raise $30,000 from the community and the money was used towards repair expenses. The money coupled with what was given by the church’s insurance allowed to church to proceed with repairs without incurring a loss.
“It’s a blessing to walk in on Sunday mornings and see the beautiful church that we have here,” Dave Nunn, the congregation president and business manager said.
Pastor Matthew Jennings said he was thrilled to see the new looks of the church as it would allow the congregation to move on to one of it’s main focus, recruiting new members. There are plans to have both Hispanic and youth bible studies to help increase membership.
“I think it just brings an inviting place for people to come to church,” he said.
Nunn said the church is still recovering financially from a bad contractor that CBS Local 2’s Tom Tucker investigated. He estimated the church lost about $1 million.
The church is looking to raise $60,000 by April of 2018 in order to keep the church afloat. Anyone who would like to donate can go to their website here or mail a check to the Christ Lutheran Church at P.O. Box 669, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240-0669
