Flooding causes damage to Palm Springs homes

Residents like Christy Lowe and Woudy and Linda Klein at the Safari Park neighborhood in Palm Springs witnessed rain and flooding right in front of their home.

“The winds started coming up, then the rain came, and when the rain came, it flooded,” Lowe said.

They said the rain and flooding Saturday afternoon quickly took over their community.

“Flooded street up to our doors,” Linda Klein said. “The wind was blowing the wind sideways. It was coming down so hard. It was crazy.”

For Lowe, however, the flooding left damage with mud throughout her home.

“It started through the back, all through here, and then my back room, it just flooded,” Lowe said. “Like an inch of mud all over the bathroom [and] the bedroom. So, it’s done damage.”

The Kleins said they’ve never seen anything like what happened Saturday in their 30 years of being in Palm Springs.

While they’re thankful they’re safe, those like Lowe said it’s now about moving forward.

“My first thing is how I’m going to clean it up,” she said. “The damage it’s going to do [and] the mold that it could create.”

Klein said she would like to see a retaining wall built on the hill behind the community to help with any future inclement weather.
