Neighbors & friends remember local 9/11 victim
Barbara Keating had a real zest for life, so much so that her friends and family planted a lemon tree in her honor nearly 16 years ago.
Keating was on one of the planes that stuck the World Trade Center, she was traveling from Boston to Palm Springs.
She would usually leave later in the fall but neighbors said she was on that flight to visit her daughter who had been in a car accident.
Over the past decade and a half, many of the people who knew Keating have moved on or passed away, but those who are still here remember her would every day at 4:30 in the afternoon.
“She went to pool 7 and at 4:30 every day without missing, she was there with her martini so it is like she has left a legacy that we have kind of honored in her memory,” said Bette King, friend and neighbor of Barbara Keating.
Neighbors served some martinis of their own in memory of Keating. They said she was a robust and opinionated woman who loved her life and was very active in her church.
They will continue to tend to this tree in her honor and memory.
