Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Thursday morning, as a third straight night of overnight freeway closures snarled traffic.
Construction crews continued work to build the new Jefferson Street interchange.
The freeway’s westbound lanes were shut down at the Monroe Street exit, and traffic was detoured to Avenue 42, then back onto the freeway at Washington Street.
Both Jefferson Street westbound on ramps were also closed to traffic.
Westbound freeway lanes were open.
The roadwork was expected to be completed by 6:00 a.m.
Local representatives attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17 to celebrate the interchange’s near completion.
