Local protests against Trump’s immigration policies continue
Protests continued in the Coachella Valley on Thursday, amid a week of nationwide and local protests against the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
This following a protest on Monday, as part of the "Day without Immigrants" movement, and another on Wednesday in Palm Desert/Cathedral City, part of the 50501 movement.
Local immigration organizations, like Comité Latino, organized today's demonstration.
One protestor says it's a scary situation for the local immigrant population.
“People are scared to go outside now. People don’t want to leave their homes because they’re scared of being arrested... I know a lot of fathers, mothers, babies, brothers, sisters, tios, families that are going through hard times right now.”
Jose Manuel Arredondo, La Quinta resident
But those who attended say they're hoping to be a beacon of hope.
They're optimistic about making change, no matter the long road ahead.
“One of the tenets of the Constitution is the freedom of speech, freedom to organize. I think as a community and if we all rally together and make enough noise, there’s going to be no choice but to pay attention to it. We create disruption through our resistance.”
Yessi Fiacco, Beaumont resident
Organizers say they'll continue to fight through protest and community advocacy.
