La Quinta named one of the top 50 safest cities in California
La Quinta has been named one of the top 50 safest cities in California by SafeWise.
SafeWise, a site that researches “home security companies, home safety products, and home automation gizmos” released the 2019 edition of their list of California’s 50 Safest Cities.
According to researchers, the list is determined by using the most recent FBI crime report statistics (in this case the 2017 report) to determine violent & property crime rates along with population data (per 1,000 people).
The FBI website says violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Property crime is offenses like burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
The Bay Area city of Danville was named the safest city in the state for the second year in a row.
La Quinta came in ranked at 49, the only Coachella Valley city ranked in the top 50. According to the site, with a population of 41,528, La Quinta has a 1.61 violent crime rate and a 28.82 property crime rate.
Other valley cities listed among a list of 228 California cities included: Palm Desert at 56, Coachella at 107, Palm Springs at 201, and Indio at 216.
Cities missing either didn’t meet the population criteria or didn’t submit a complete crime report to the FBI.
