Police Search For Coachella Rape Suspect

COACHELLA -Coachella police today made public a sketch of a roughly 25-year-old man who abducted a woman in the city’s business district Sunday night and raped her in a field in Thermal.

The Hispanic suspect, about 5 feet 6 inches and 140 pounds with tattoos on his hands and shoulders, was wearing a red “TapOut” T-shirt and had a scar over his right eyebrow, the victim told detectives.

The man, who wore a goatee and his hair slicked back, forced the woman into his green Volkswagen in the 50000 block of Harrison Street and drove her to a field off Airport Boulevard and Pierce Street in Thermal, where she was raped, police said.

The woman, who was left in the field, walked to a house and called for help, police said, adding that she suffered minor injuries during the assault.

It was unclear what model VW the suspect was driving, but the victim told police it had a manual transmission. Her attacker was further described as wearing blue jeans and white Puma shoes.

Anyone with more information about the crime or the whereabouts of the suspect was asked to call Investigator Tom Michna at (760) 863-8990 or Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
