Indian Wells Residents Go Greener With City’s First Organic Garden
INDIAN WELLS -Indian Wells just got a little greener.
The city unveiled its first organic community garden Monday.
It is locatedon the east side of EldoradoDr. adjacent to the city’s fire department.
There are 36 plots, but the city had to conduct a lottery because more than 80 people applied to have one.
One of those lucky gardeners, Maryangela Josephs, tells News Channel 3 she cannot wait to start cooking meals with ingredientsgrown from her very own little piece of land.
“Ido roses, but I’ve never done vegetables. Every timeI tried herbs here in the valley, they died,” she explained. “So, I’m excited to get my first tomatoes!”
It costs the city $55,000 to build the garden.
Gardeners pay an annualfee, ranging from $20-35. The fee will cover the garden’s maintenance and amenities.
