Local Filmmakers Impressed With Kathryn Bigelow
The news is still sinking infor the winnersat Sundaynight’s Academy Awards.The night belonged to KathrynBigelow’s film “The Hurt Locker.”The motion picture won 6 Oscars including best picture and best director. In winning the best director award,Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to pull off the feat.News Channelspoke with a couple of local women film makers.They’re impressed that Bigelow could take on a tough subject like the disposal of bombs in the Iraq war and get it more than right.Film Producer Kim Waltrip has screened the film twice.”I was so excited for her and when I first saw the film, Ithought thank you. This beautiful incredible woman, directing a raunchy relentless war movie.”Fellow film producer Denise DuBarryalso weighed in.”I think what was interesting about her winning was her subject matter. I mean for a woman to direct a war film is kinda of unheard of.”Bigelow is only the 4th woman in the history of the Oscars to be nominated for the best director award.
