CHP offering free driving class for teens and parents

The California Highway Patrol in Indio will offer a free“Smart Start” teen driver class tonight for parents and teenagers.

The 6:30 p.m. class at the CHP’s Indio office at 79-650 Varner Roadincludes information designed to help teenagers become better equipped tohandle situations behind the wheel, according to the CHP.

The class starts with a “Red Asphalt 5” video — a CHP-produceddocumentary depicting crashes and their aftermath — and photos from localcollisions in which people died. The class then transitions to driving basicsand tips, according to the CHP.

Reservations are required, and participating teens must be accompaniedby a parent. Teens who finish the class receive a certificate.
