Traffic flows again in Indio after car crashes into SunDial bus

The Indio Police Department said the traffic congestion at Highway 111 and Jefferson Street in Indio Wednesday afternoon occurred after a car ran a red light, striking a Sunline SunDial bus at the intersection.

Commander Hank Peeters said they received the call just after 2:30 p.m. The car was traveling northbound on Jefferson Street when the driver appeared to run the red light.

The bus was turning onto Highway 111 from Jefferson Street when it was hit by the car, Peeters said. The driver of the car wasn’t hurt but the bus driver and one of the three passengers aboard the SunDial were taken to the hospital, complaining of pain.

Traffic began running more smoothly around 4 p.m. Some viewers said it took an hour to travel a short distance in the aftermath of the crash.
