Fifth licensed cannabis dispensary opens in Palm Springs
The fifth licensed medical cannabis dispensary in Palm Springs will be celebrating a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony this week.
The doors opened at PSA Organica about two weeks ago. Before that, the medical cannabis dispensary operated without a permit, then new ownership took over the business.
“A license takes a lot of money, it takes a lot of work, and takes a lot of effort,” said Julie Montante, owner of PSA Orgnaica.
Employees with PSA Organica claim their company focuses on a specific type of patient.
“There is definitely a clientele of younger kids who smoke pot and that doesn’t tend to be our clientele, that’s not who we cater to, we don’t even bring the products in here that they are really looking for,” said Mitchell Mills, director of community education for PSA Organica.
That means staying away from products like dabs and sometimes focusing on products that don’t get patients high. The dispensary already has a loyal following of patients who say they won’t buy their cannabis from anywhere else.
“It’s not really a dispensary attitude it’s like friends or family, everyone knows everyone even the clients who walk in know all the names and everything and everybody here,” said Simon Sarkisian, a medical cannabis patient.
PSA Organica also offers discounts to military veterans.
“The VA for one won’t provide our medical cannabis so coming to a shop like this helps especially with the discounts we get shows there are people that care,” said Dave Torres, a US Army Veteran who suffers from PTSD.
For the cannabis patient with a green thumb they have an indoor garden where patients can pick a plant to grow their own cannabis at home.
The Palm Springs City Council has approved a sixth medical cannabis dispensary in the city which is scheduled to open sometime in March.
The grand opening ceremony for PSA Organica is schedule for Friday at from noon to 2 p.m. The dispensary is located on 400 Sunny Dunes Rd in Palm Springs.
