Dispensary offers free pot for patients with cancer & PTSD
Free medical marijuana for cancer patients and veterans, for life.
That’s what one new dispensary is advertising.
Green leaf wellness opened their doors for business last week in Desert Hot Springs.
The shop’s owners said cancer patients and veterans deserve help.
That’s why they want to provide them with relief for free.
“Green Leaf Wellness is the only dispensary that have a medical program that will give free medication to cancer patients,” said Ian Armstrong the president of American Cannabis Chamber of Commerce.
They also work with veterans with PTSD.
“We cater to veterans. Because of our education, we’re capable of offering them relief from that anxiety without that high feeling,” Armstrong said.
To qualify Armstrong said patients need to show a diagnosis or a DD214 from the military. The federal government doesn’t recognize cannabis as medication in every state, but Armstrong said taking part in this program will not affect vets federal benefits.
“It’s not that they just give away free medication. It’s through the Tier Three Program. They actually coordinate with the oncologist for the cancer patient with tracking logs to allow the doctor and patient with in depth data about how cannabis can actually help the individual,” Armstrong said.
As far as how they can afford to give away all the medication, Armstrong said he has the funds.
“Most of my funding is acquired through other business ventures. The cannabis industry, Five Star Products, has its own edibles line. I’ve got different cultivation operations throughout California, so we actually have the funding,” Armstrong said.
Owner Thom Miller said the most common problems patients have are back pain and anxiety.
He said their industry has made great strides toward helping those suffering.
“We’re not in the closet anymore. That’s why we have open windows and our space is bright and airy. It’s not like you walk into a place you have to be secret about,” Miller said.
Doctor Paul Ironside said when it comes to treating these ailments with cannabis, why wouldn’t you.
“It works and its safe and it’s available,” Ironside said.
