First Alert Weather Alert issued for excessive heat through Sunday

The First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Alert for excessive heat through Sunday, June 12th. Temperatures will climb above 110° providing the hottest days of 2022 so far.

South Coast Air Quality Management District issued an Ozone Advisory ahead of the heatwave. "Elevated temperatures, which enhance ozone formation rates and increase emissions of chemicals leading to ozone formation, coupled with predicted light winds may cause unusually high and persistent levels of ozone pollution."

The Excessive Heat Warning persists through Sunday evening. The hot afternoons and warm overnights won't provide much relief from the heat. This will increase the chance of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working outdoors.

Heat-related illnesses should be taken seriously. Reduce time out in the sun and drink plenty of water. Take a moment to read over the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke to be aware for yourself and your family.

Take all the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe during the extreme heat.

Next up is the wind. Wind speeds will strengthen Saturday evening, with stronger gusts arriving Sunday afternoon.

This will bring cooler air into the region and temperatures will drop near the seasonal average on Monday. The relief won't last long as highs will climb near 110° by Thursday.
