Local church gives gift to single mom on Mother’s Day
Being a single mother and raising four children, Mayte Gaxiola said at times her life can be stressful.
“We wake up really early and they go to school at different times and then come to church,” Gaxiola said.
Gaxiola attends Southwest Church in Indian Wells faithfully, using any means necessary to get back and forth. She said not having her own car isn’t easy.
“My dad lets me borrow his truck. I had a car but it broke down,” Gaxiola said. “It’s kind of expensive because driving a truck, I had to put a lot more gas in. And being a single mom is pretty hard.”
But now she can say goodbye to her dad’s truck.
With the help of the Coachella Valley Ford dealers, the church surprised Gaxiola with a brand new car.
“They gave the car, and we are going to provide taxes and insurance for the first year,” Southwest Church Lead Pastor Gerald Sharon said.
Gaxiola said she can’t begin express how thankful she is.
Sharon said it’s the least they could do for someone who does so much.
“It’s important to recognize moms because they have a very critical and challenging job,” Sharon said.”
