New superintendent named for Palm Springs Unified

Santa Monica-Malibu School District Superintendent Sandra Lyon will be the new superintendent for Palm Springs Unified School District.

Tuesday night, the board unanimously approved the appointment of Lyon to replace Superintendent Dr. Christine Anderson, who will retire on June 30th.

Lyon has been the superintendent of Santa-Monica Malibu Schools since 2011.

She’s a 28-year veteran in education and has previous experience in the Palmdale School District and Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes School District in the Antelope Valley.

She was also an English and Language Arts teacher.

Anderson is retiring from the Palm Springs Unified School District after serving as superintendent for five years and assistant superintendent of educational services for four years.
