Injured Hiker Rescued Near Idyllwild

A 49-year-old man who suffered an ankle injury while hiking with a group of Boy Scouts near Idyllwild was airlifted to safety today. The Mission Viejo resident, whose name was not released, left with the group around 11 a.m. Sunday on the Deer Springs trail, said Deputy Melissa Nieburger of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Two Earthquakes Rattle Coachella Valley

Two moderate earthquakes rumbled through the Southern California area Saturday morning. The USGS reports the first temblor hit at 10:30am, measuring 5.3 in magnitude. It was later revised to 4.9.
