October’s Coachella Valley spotlight recipient: Friends of the Palm Springs Library

The mission of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library is to support the Library in providing world-class service to the community through the purchase of books, movies, music, the visual arts, furnishings, etc. The organization acts as the link between the library, the community, and its elected officials. It supports programs that encourage reading, culture, and the arts, as well as volunteer-based activities that support the greater community.

As the recipient of October's $25,000 grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, the organization said it plans to use the money to reboot the Palm Springs Public Library's "Accessing the Past" archiving project with needed equipment and supplies. The $25,000 would be used to purchase new computers to upgrade the scanning system, additional hard drives to back up scanned images, archival storage boxes for physical items, and outreach and education tools like portable USB flash drives to use during public outreach scanning events or one-on-one sessions with community members.
