Earthquake Swarm Rumbles South Of Salton Sea

Cal Tech seismologists call the number of earthquakes that hit south of the Salton Sea on Wednesday a “swarm.”

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake and several others shook the area on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The 4.4 earthquake hit at 11:16 a.m. and was centered 4 miles north of Brawley.

A series of smaller earthquakes rumbled through the area throughout the morning.

A 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit at 11:33 a.m., and a 3.3 magnitude earthquake hit at 7:30 a.m. Both were centered in the same location.

A large section of El Centro and Brawley reported feeling a weak shake, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

A 3.7 earthquake hit at 10:59 a.m. centered in the same area, and a 2.5 hit seconds later at 11:00 a.m.

Several smaller earthquakes below a 3.0 also hit the area.
