Man Hit And Killed By Hit And Run Driver In Coachella
A man was killed today in a hit-and-run crash in Coachella, according to the sheriff’s department.
The man, in his 30s or 40s, was killed around 6 a.m. on the northbound Highway 86 Expressway, just south of Airport Boulevard, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Melissa Nieburger.
The man was involved in a car accident with another driver, and after the two motorists parked on the shoulder, he got out and was standing on the side of the road when he was struck by a third vehicle, whose driver did not stop, Nieburger said.
He died at the scene.
Witnesses descried the suspect’s vehicle as a GMC Yukon or blue GMC Safari van, Nieburger said.
The northbound portion of the 86 Expressway remained closed as of 3 p.m., as was Airport Boulevard at the intersection. Traffic is being diverted onto Grapefruit Boulevard, said Officer John Quintero of the California Highway Patrol.
