Road Rage Leads To Discovery Of Weapons

Two men were arrested at a Desert Hot Springs home where police found several weapons, including a shotgun allegedly brandished in a fight Dec. 18, authorities said today.

Jason Weidman, 38, and Blaine Bates, 41, were arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms, Desert Hot Springs police Sgt. Gus Paiz said.

Police found a .223-caliber rifle, a shotgun, two pistols, knives and ammunition at a home in the 13000 block of Cactus Drive Friday night, he said. Officers were serving a warrant in connection with a road rage crime, Paiz said.

According to Paiz, Bates was also booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for threatening a woman with a shotgun in a Dec. 18 argument near Hacienda Avenue and West Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

Both suspects were booked into the Larry D. Smith jail in Banning and released on bail Saturday.
