Wife Of Former DHS Mayor Connected To Palm Springs Hold Ups
The 69-year-old wife of a former Desert Hot Springs mayor was arraigned Friday and pleaded not guilty to robbing two Bank of America locations in Palm Springs.
Carol Jean Bias, wife of Alex Bias, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a dye pack exploded in a bag of money that she allegedly stole from a the Bank of America branch at 588 S. Palm Canyon Drive.
Witnesses saw ink explode on her when she walked out of the downtown bank just after noon. Officers found Bias about a mile away, with her clothes stained in ink.
She is also charged with the Feb. 3 heist at a Bank of America at 5601 E. Ramon Road.
During that crime, police said a woman wearing large sunglasses and a straw hat slipped a note to a teller demanding money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A weapon was not used in either robbery, but she is facing charges of strong-armed robbery.
Bias is being held on $50,000 bail.
