Yucca Valley Woman Hit By 3 Vehicles Dies

A woman wearing dark clothing as she cross a busy State Route 62 in Yucca Valley was killed Monday night after she was hit by possibly three vehicles.

A spokesman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Deborah Gerdes, 54. of Yucca Valley, was crossing SR 62 around 6:40 p.m. when a car driven by a Rancho Mirage resident hit her.

“The female walked out in front of his car. Dixon was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian,” he said.

Gerdes was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second vehicle also struck the victim immediately afterward, according to the spokesman, and there was a report of a possible third vehicle that hit her after the initial collision.

The driver of that car fled the scene without stopping, he said.

If you have information on a possible hit and run driver, call the Sheriff’s Dept. at 760 366-4175.
