Cal State University Plans 9 Percent Tuition Hike
California State University students would see a 9 percent tuition hike for the next academic year if the state Legislature does not allocate an additional $138 million for the 23-campus system in its upcoming budget.
University spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp said Tuesday the board of trustees is set to vote on the tuition increase at a meeting next Wednesday.
The raise would mean students, including those at Cal State San Bernardino’s campus in Palm Desert, would pay an extra $498, bringing the annual tuition bill to $5,970 per year.
Uhlenkamp says the university will ask the state in January to allot extra funds so tuition does not have to be raised for the sixth consecutive year.
The state slashed CSU’s budget by $650 million this year, sparking a 23 percent tuition hike, and could further cut $100 million if revenues fall short.
